Carrie, You did not fail. Some people carry around a great burden of hurt that emerges as misery toward others. This may be the only way they know how to communicate because it is the familiar and stepping out into the unfamiliar, treating others with kindness, is very scary. Bravo for being there for your travel companion. Know you are loved by so many.
