OUR POSTS FROM LAST WEEK
WRITING EXERCISE
The fantastic THE TIME IS NOW created by Poets and Writers has a writing prompt or exercise every day and this one is so much fun. I hope you’ll check out the site AND do the prompt.
“Each year Oxford Languages names a Word of the Year that reflects the “ethos, mood, or preoccupations of the past twelve months” based on thorough analysis of statistics and data, but for the first time this year’s choice was open to a public vote. More than 300,000 people cast their vote and the overwhelming winner is “goblin mode,” a slang term defined as “a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.” Write an essay about a time you have gone into “goblin mode.” Was the period of unapologetic behavior necessary for you to recharge?”

Ploughshares Call for Submissions (Deadline January 15)
Ploughshares has published quality literature since 1971. Our award-winning literary journal is published four times a year; our lively literary blog publishes new writing daily. Since 1989, we have been based at Emerson College in downtown Boston. Categories include the journal, longform, Look2 essays, and the Emerging Writer’s Contest in the spring.
Ploughshares welcomes unsolicited submissions of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction during our regular reading period, which runs from June 1 to January 15. The literary journal is published four times a year: mixed issues of poetry and prose in the Spring and Winter, a prose issue in the Summer, and a longform prose issue in the Fall. Our Spring and Summer issues are guest-edited by different writers of prominence.
