Let's Layer the Scenes
I think this is one of the biggest ways to keep your writing from feeling flat.
Hello!
I am going to have a full disclosure moment. I just cried. It wasn’t the sobbing kind, do not worry. It’s because a nice man in a town across our island just donated to our paper. We have a local daily digital newspaper with no paywalls, so he truly didn’t need to do that.
It came right after I wrote this story about another really kind thing that has happened in our small community for ten years. It’s one of the most joyous things ever and it’s all about holiday magic and joy and it happens because this organization of lovely humans makes it happen.
Any way, kindness makes me cry.
So, to those of you who are reading this and are paid subscribers just so you can either support me or get one paid post a week? That’s a really big deal. And if I think too hard about that? I’ll start crying again. But thank you. Thank you so much.
The post below is all about scene layering and I think that it’s one of the biggest big-time things to know about when you have a section of a scene/chapter/book that doesn’t feel right.
Novels aren’t newspaper articles, right? Not just because they are fiction, but also because they are meant to be experienced by the reader. This technique helps when it feels like something is flat.
