Joy Harjo, the poet, believes that every bit of art has a legacy that is historic, familial and cultural. Nothing, she says, “exists within a vacuum.”
Connections are what happens when we experience . . . anything.
“How do we get here? Where are we going?” reads material from her master class. “Everyone faces these questions, but we each have different ways of asking them and seeking answers. Your identity, your cultural background, your beliefs, and your constructs are unique to you—and your words will reflect this truth. ‘Each human is a complex, contradictory story,’ Joy says. ‘Each is a zigzag of emotional design and ancestral architecture.”
